History On May 22nd

If you were wondering what happened today in history, which you probably weren’t, then here I am to tell you what happened on the day, of May 22nd.

 

May 22nd:

1928 – An explosion in No. 1 mine at Yukon Pocahontas in West Virginia left 17 dead.

1945 – England prime minister Winston Churchill resigned.

1958 – A powerful Nike Missile blew up underground in Middleton, New Jersey, which set up a further 8 which exploded and ended up killing between 7 to 10 people. The reason is unknown why it exploded.

1972 – Ceylon changed it’s name to Sri Lanka.

2008 – Eight women and three men, aged between 80 and 96 were burned to death when they were accused of being witches in the district of Kenya 19.

2010 – Jordan Romero, a 13 year old boy, becomes the youngest person to climb Mount Everest.
