If you were wondering what happened in history today, which you probably weren’t, then here I am to tell you what happened in history on the day of May 5th.


May 5th:

1821 – Napoleon Bonaparte dies on Saint Helena in the South Atlantic.

1891 – Carnegie Hall has its official opening in New York.

1924 – 38 pirates who had been seizing ships for the cargo in Hong Kong waters have been captured and shot by chinese authorities.

1925 – John Thomas Scopes, a teacher in Tennessee was arrested for the teaching of evolution in Tennessee schools.

1961 – Alan B. Shepard Jr became the first American in space to today after soaring 115 miles above earth in a spacecraft named Freedom 7.
