History On May 2nd

If you were wondering what happened in history today, which you probably weren’t until you saw this, then here I am to tell you what happened, on May 2nd.

 

May 2nd:

1933 – A local Inverness newspaper in Scotland publishes an account by a local couple who claimed to have seen “an enormous animal rolling and plunging on the surface” of Loch Ness.

1997 – Tony Blair became Britain’s youngest prime minister in 185 years.

1997 – A 60 MPH sandstorm sweeps across much of Egypt, causing widespread damage to buildings and killing 12 people.

2011 – Barack Obama announces that Osama Bin Laden had been found and killed, the man who many believed was responsible for the 9/11 attacks.

2012 – The famous painting “The Scream,” by Edvard Munch, was sold for a record breaking 120 million dollars at an auction in New York.

2013 – Rhode Island legalizes gay marriage and was now the tenth state in the U.S. to legalize it.
